Catlin Architecture had the unique opportunity of adding a 15,127 square foot new-construction independent pre-school to an early 18th century church in the town center of Milton, MA. Considerable effort was taken to create the building as a neutral backdrop to the historic church and not to overwhelm the presence and character of the church or the town center. The unique site topography allowed the addition of a two-story structure with four classrooms, administration, lobby, and a large multipurpose room with a full commercial kitchen on the main level, with expansion for two additional classrooms on the lower fully accessible level. Included in the project was a three stop elevator creating accessibility to the church’s existing two story parish hall, a fenced outdoor play area, and parking for 40 cars.
